In 1913 Bishop Josip Mardešić entrusted the church to the Capuchin friars. They established a monastery nearby. The monastery was built in two phases. Fra Vinko Desić oversaw the first phase in 1928. Fra Matija Koren completed the second phase in 1936. This expansion greatly enhanced the church’s presence in the community.

The Yugoslav communist regime briefly took over a part of the monastery. But after Croatia’s independence the Capuchins regained full control. The church and monastery have remained vital centers of faith and community ever since.
