Cristo Salva

In 1968 amidst serious problems a couple found solace. Cassio and Noeli Colombo’s lives changed forever. They discovered faith in Jesus. This marked the beginning of the Igreja Cristo Salva. It started in a home on Avenida Itacira. Initially twenty young people mostly hippies gathered. They were affectionately nicknamed Tio Cassio and Tia Noeli. These informal Monday meetings grew. Soon hundreds attended drawn by the couple’s love and the message of salvation. The Igreja Cristo Salva was unlike other churches of that time. It embraced modern instruments. Guitars and drums joined the organ and piano. This innovative approach attracted many. It unintentionally started a trend of daily services. The church’s vibrant music was a key factor in its growth. In 1988 two worship groups alternated services. One group Oficina G3 later became famous. The Igreja Cristo Salva expanded rapidly. New churches opened in various cities. Missionaries were sent across Brazil even abroad. The church’s growth was remarkable. Its evangelism was bold and innovative. It always focused on building the Kingdom of God not a denomination. Pastor Narciso Souza and his congregation joined the Igreja Cristo Salva. They had experienced a spiritual awakening and sought a welcoming community. The Cristo Salva’s early meetings were held in a simple structure. A shed in a Jundiaí orchard then a rented warehouse. As the church expanded a tent was built. It held 200 people. The construction was a community effort. Later in 1995 the church moved to Itupeva. The move to Itupeva was significant. It better served its growing congregation. The church’s journey was one of faith and growth. It faced many financial challenges. Yet God always provided. A vision of a bus led to the acquisition of transportation. This ensured attendance from distant locations. The purchase of land in Itupeva was another act of faith. The Cristo Salva’s story is a testament to God’s power. It’s a story of simple people united by faith. Their dedication created a lasting legacy. The Igreja Cristo Salva continues to serve and inspire. It stands as a beacon of faith and hope.
