On a hill overlooking the bustling town of St. John’s, you’ll find the Covenant Baptist Church. This isn’t just any church. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of faith and community in Antigua and Barbuda. The Covenant Baptist Church was founded on Easter Sunday in 2004. Driven by a mission to revive a disbanded Baptist church in the Cedar Grove community, the East Caribbean Baptist Mission (ECBM), under Dr. Hensworth W.C. Jonas, took on this noble task. The church’s journey began with a small but dedicated group of nine members who transferred from the Central and Tyrell’s Baptist Churches. Initially finding a temporary home in rented facilities in the Coolidge area, the church’s destiny soon took a turn for the better. Through a twist of fate, or perhaps divine intervention, the ECBM acquired property in the Longford’s Estate/Mount Pleasant community on Friars Hill Road. This would become the site of the permanent Covenant Baptist Church as we see it today. The building itself stands as a symbol of their dedication, officially dedicated on April 15, 2007. The Covenant Baptist Church is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a beacon of hope, a place of worship, and a testament to the power of faith to bring people together.
