Doesn’t the name Countryside conjure images of rolling hills and peaceful landscapes? Yet, just 27 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., Countryside, Virginia offers more than meets the eye. It is a census-designated place in Loudoun County. Countryside has a story woven from farmland, planned communities, and a vibrant present.

Imagine the 1970s. A thousand acres of open farmland lay waiting. A vision took hold. This land would become a planned housing development. In 1981, construction began, shaping what we see today in Countryside. Homes rose steadily until 1991. The majority of these homes were built by Pulte Homes. They showcase a colonial architectural style. Think two stories and basements.

But Countryside is more than just houses. It is a community. CountrySide Proprietary is its homeowners association. This association helps maintain the quality of life here.

Spanning about 2.6 square miles, Countryside offers a blend of suburban living and access to nature. Paved paths wind through wooded neighborhoods. These paths invite residents to explore. Smaller hiking trails branch off. These are perfect for hiking and jogging. Some trails pre-date Countryside.

Three swimming pools offer cool relief during the summer months. Countryside Lake is accessible for fishing. Parks and recreational facilities border the community. Horsepen Run Countryside Nature Preserve is accessible to the northern border of the community. Algonkian Regional Park features a golf course. Volcano Island Waterpark promises fun for the whole family. The Algonkian Regional Park boat ramp offers access to the Potomac River for water sports. Several playgrounds are accessible within the community.

Horsepen Run drains the community. It flows north into the Potomac River. Countryside Lake invites residents to enjoy fishing and light water recreation.

Countryside offers convenient access to urban amenities. Dulles Town Center is located to the south, across Route 7. Washington Dulles International Airport is only about 9 miles away.

Countryside students attend local schools. These include Countryside Elementary School and Algonkian Elementary School. Horizon Elementary School is also nearby. Older students attend River Bend Middle School and Potomac Falls High School.

Today, Countryside stands as a testament to planned development. Its blend of housing, recreation, and community spirit creates a unique place to live. It exemplifies how open farmland can transform into a thriving suburb. This location retains a connection to nature and a strong sense of community. Countryside continues to evolve. It offers a blend of the past and the present for its residents.
