Corner Stone Baptist Church

Tucked away on North Solomons Island Road, Corner Stone Baptist Church has witnessed a unique journey. Corner Stone Baptist Church isn’t the church’s original name. It started as Cornerstone Baptist Church of Christ in 1981, founded by Dr. Robert H. Wilson Sr. The very first service wasn’t even held in a church building. It took place in Singing Hills Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Imagine 108 people joining a brand-new church during its first service. The church continued to hold services at the funeral home while they diligently raised money for their own building. In less than a year, they had raised an astounding $100,000. By September 1984, construction was complete on their new facility on West Camp Wisdom Road. This marked a new chapter for Corner Stone Baptist Church. Dr. Wilson led the church for 25 years, retiring in 2006. His leadership extended beyond Dallas. He was the Executive Director of Missions for the National Baptist Convention of America. He even helped build a children’s hospital in Obuasi, Ghana. Dr. Wilson passed away in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of service and growth. The church continued under Dr. Craig E. White Sr. until 2013. Then, a period of transition and renewal began. Reverend Harvey B. Miller Jr. became pastor in 2014. He guided the church through a significant transformation, even shortening the name to Corner Stone Church. Renovations began on the building, symbolizing the church’s renewed spirit. Corner Stone Church adopted a local apartment complex and became a vital part of the community. It’s truly remarkable how Corner Stone Church has evolved. From humble beginnings in a funeral home, Corner Stone Baptist Church now stands as a testament to its resilience, commitment to community, and unwavering faith.
