Welcome to Corner Creek. This campsite is a hidden gem near Palliser Bay. It’s a place where the forest meets the sea. The area is known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
Corner Creek is located within a five-minute walk from Palliser Bay. This makes it an ideal spot for beach lovers. The campsite is surrounded by coastal manuka forest. This provides a tranquil setting. However, be prepared for strong winds that can sweep through the area.
You can reach Corner Creek by driving south from Featherston. Follow Western Lake Road. Then head west on Wharekauhau Road towards the coast. Continue northwest alongside Ocean Beach until you reach Corner Creek. Note that the last 3 km are on an unsealed road. There are also two stream fords. Large vehicles can manage this road. Access is only from the eastern side of the Remutaka Range.
Corner Creek is more than just a campsite. It’s a gateway to adventure. Fishing is a popular activity here. You might catch your dinner. Surfing is another favorite. The waves of Palliser Bay can be exhilarating. Walking trails invite you to explore the coastline and nearby forest. Hunting and mountain biking are also options for the adventurous.
The Corner Creek campsite operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Bookings are not required. To stay here, you will need to pay a fee. Adults pay $10 per night. Children aged 5 to 17 pay $5 per night. Infants stay for free. Payment can be made with a DOC Campsite Pass. Alternatively, you can pay with cash at the self-registration stand. Put the correct fee in the envelope provided. Place the receipt section on your vehicle or tent.
Fires are permitted only in designated fire places. Before lighting a fire, check for any fire bans. Always follow the rules to protect the environment.
