Founded in 1903 Congregation Rodeph Shalom stands as a testament to Tampa’s enduring Jewish community. Imagine twenty families gathered in J L Mairson’s home a humble beginning for this now prominent institution. Their goal was simple to create a space for religious education and social connection. This wasn’t just a building it was a sanctuary a place of peace and learning a beacon in the burgeoning city.

From those early days in Ybor City Congregation Rodeph Shalom grew. A small building on Palm Avenue gave way to a larger one in 1909. Then came the construction of a permanent structure in 1936. The community expanded and thrived. The Ladies Auxiliary and Brotherhood organizations formed in 1917 demonstrating the collective spirit and dedication of its members. A religious school opened in 1918 ensuring the continuation of Jewish traditions for generations to come.

Congregation Rodeph Shalom’s growth mirrored Tampa’s expanding Jewish population. By 1969 the congregation moved to its current impressive location on Bayshore Boulevard. This majestic building with its prominent menorah is a symbol of Tampa’s vibrant Jewish life. It stands as a proud reminder of the community’s heritage and enduring faith. The addition of an educational facility in 1994 cemented the congregation’s commitment to education and spiritual growth.
