“Strange rock formations abound on Po Toi Island”. That’s a phrase you will hear a lot about Conch Rock. Po Toi Island itself is a peaceful escape from Hong Kong. It lies at Hong Kong’s southernmost tip.

Welcome to Conch Rock. It is one of the unique rock formations on Po Toi Island. You will also find Monk Rock and Tortoise Rock here. These rocks and the ancient Bronze Age rock carvings make Po Toi Island a place of stunning landscapes.

Po Toi Island is just 3.69 square kilometers. Once you reach Nam Kok Tsui Lighthouse, you can find Palm Cliff. Palm Cliff is also known as Buddha’s Hand Rock. From a certain angle, this cliffside looks like a meditating person.

To get here, you will need to plan ahead. Transportation to Po Toi Island is limited. You will need to spare a full day for your visit. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a kaito goes to Po Toi Island. It departs once a day at 10 AM from Aberdeen’s Po Toi Ferry Terminal. On weekends and public holidays, ferries run from Aberdeen.

The island is almost entirely granite. Granite is the most common rock in Hong Kong. Because granite erodes easily in the wind and rain, the rocks have weathered into strange shapes. Tortoise Rock is another example. It looks like a gigantic tortoise crawling toward the mountain top.

Amah Rock was rated as the most beautiful rock in Hong Kong. This information comes from the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark.

Remember to bring snacks and drinks. Amenities are limited on Po Toi Island. As you explore, appreciate the forces that shaped these rocks. The wind and rain have sculpted them over countless years. The result is a landscape unlike any other. Enjoy your exploration of Conch Rock.
