The church stands proudly in São Paulo’s Higienópolis neighborhood, a testament to faith and architectural beauty. Comunidade Católica Santa Terezinha do Menino Jesus opened its doors in 1928. The Italian engineer Antonio Vincenti designed this beautiful sanctuary. Architect Fiorello Panelli brought Vincenti’s vision to life. The church’s interior, however, remained unfinished for a time. A gift from Dona Sofia Neves Torres graces the church. It is a statue of St. Therese, brought all the way from Lisieux, France. Another generous donation came from Count Matarazzo, the Italian-Brazilian entrepreneur. He gifted the church its bell, its resonant peals calling the faithful to worship. The church’s interior, shaped like a cross, embraces the Romanesque style. The central altar, crafted from Carrara marble, is a masterpiece. It depicts St. Therese descending a staircase, the Child Jesus resting against the Holy Face. From her apron, Therese gathers roses, scattering them to the world. White lilies bloom at her feet, near a shield bearing the coat of arms she painted in Carmel. A Brazilian flag catches the falling flowers, a symbol of the church’s home. Comunidade Católica Santa Terezinha do Menino Jesus is a beloved wedding venue. Rose petals cascade from the ceiling, showering the newlyweds as they exchange vows. It’s a tradition unique to this church, making it a sought-after location for couples beginning their journey together. Beyond its beauty, the church has a heart for service.
