Established in 1898 the Columbus School of Law stands proudly. It’s part of the Catholic University of America a private Roman Catholic research university. This impressive institution has a rich history. It began offering law instruction in 1895. This was part of the university’s decision to open faculties for the laity. The department became a school in 1898.
The Columbus School of Law wasn’t always as it is today. In 1919 the Knights of Columbus created an evening program. This was known as Columbus University. It aimed to educate Catholic war veterans returning from World War I. This institution was closely connected to Catholic University. They even shared faculty. In 1954 Columbus University merged with Catholic University’s law school. This formed the Columbus School of Law we see today.
More than 370 Juris Doctor students attend annually. The incoming classes are typically around 125 students. These students are part of both day and evening programs. It’s a highly competitive school with around 1250 applicants yearly. The school’s ABA-required disclosures show that 72.5% of 2023 graduates obtained full-time long-term employment as attorneys. This was within ten months of graduation.
The Columbus School of Law boasts impressive achievements. It’s been a member of the Association of American Law Schools since 1921. It has been accredited by the American Bar Association since 1925. Interestingly its first African-American student enrolled in 1902. Its first female student joined in 1922.
