Originally part of Narrabeen, Collaroy slowly emerged as a distinct entity. Its development boomed in the mid-20th century, transforming the landscape. But the raw power of nature reasserted itself in June 2016. A fierce storm lashed the coast, stripping away backyards and leaving homes teetering on the edge of collapse. The scars of this event serve as a reminder of the ocean’s untamed spirit. Today, Collaroy is a vibrant tapestry of experiences. The 3.4 km stretch of golden sand, shared with Narrabeen Beach, beckons surfers, swimmers, and sunbathers. Four Surf Lifesaving Clubs stand guard, ensuring the safety of all who venture into the waves. Beyond the beach, Pittwater Road pulsates with life. For those seeking tranquility, the Salvation Army’s conference and outdoor education center offers a peaceful retreat. Collaroy has also nurtured remarkable individuals. Dr. Iza Coghlan, tennis star Gabriella Da Silva-Fick, musician Tim Freedman, rugby players Michael Hooper, Simon Kennewell, and Boyd Killingworth, tennis player Johanna Konta, and surfing legend Nat Young all have ties to this special place.
