Slipping through time’s veil, imagine yourself as a fresh-faced engineering student in 1949. CIVIL DEPT GATE wasn’t a gate yet, just an entrance to the newly minted Civil and Municipal Engineering Department at BENCO, part of the sprawling Banaras Hindu University. The department, a seed of ambition in the newly independent India, buzzed with the promise of building a nation. Fast forward to 1956, the official sanction arrives, solidifying the department’s place. The B.Sc Engineering (Civil & Municipal) Degree gains recognition from the Indian government in 1958. This era marks the true birth of CIVIL DEPT GATE, a symbolic entryway to a future shaped by concrete and steel. The department, later renamed the Department of Civil Engineering in 1975, expanded its reach. It now offers postgraduate courses in diverse specializations like Environmental, Geotechnical, Hydraulic, Structural, and Transportation Engineering. CIVIL DEPT GATE now welcomes not just undergraduates, but also aspiring specialists. Imagine the countless students who have passed through this gate, their minds brimming with equations and dreams. This gate has witnessed the evolution of civil engineering, from slide rules to sophisticated software. From the initial focus on municipal needs to advanced research programs funded by CSIR, UGC, SAP, HUDCO, DST, and AICTE, CIVIL DEPT GATE has seen it all. Today, it stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of building and innovation, a portal to the future of infrastructure.
