A sleek three-storey building stands before us. This is the CityU Veterinary Medical Centre. One of Southeast Asia’s largest veterinary clinics it opened in April 2019.

The CityU Veterinary Medical Centre is more than just a clinic. It’s a hub of veterinary excellence. It boasts a state-of-the-art intensive care unit. That’s a first for Hong Kong. Twenty-two consultation rooms ensure ample space for patients. Nine operating theatres stand ready for complex procedures. The centre provides 24/7 emergency services. Registered emergency veterinarians are always on hand.

The CityU Veterinary Medical Centre is home to Hong Kong’s largest team of veterinary specialists. They provide expertise in eight areas. Surgery anesthesiology neurology dermatology cardiology ophthalmology internal medicine and emergency critical care are all covered. Oncology services are planned for the future. The centre is equipped with advanced technology. This includes a 64-slice CT scanner and 1.5 Tesla MRI. Digital radiography ultrasound and echocardiography are also available.

Professor Way Kuo CityU’s President likened the Centre to a ‘sharp sword’. Ten years of effort went into its creation. The Centre’s impact extends beyond pet care. Mr Lau Ming-wai the Chairman noted its role in public health. Dr Duncan Hockley the Executive Director aims for the Centre to become a global leader.

The CityU Veterinary Medical Centre partners with various organizations. The Caritas Gato Home Project receives free exams and treatment. Make-A-Wish Hong Kong arranges ‘A Real Vet For A Day’ for sick children. The Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals’ spay and neuter program also receives support.
