What if a church wasn’t just a building, but a beacon? CityLights Church, right here on Boundary Road, embodies this idea. It’s not just a place of worship; it’s a testament to resilience, a story of rebirth. CityLights Church began its journey in a building with a rich history. The original church, Boundary Road Assembly, opened its doors in the 1950s. By 2010, the congregation had dwindled. This presented a unique opportunity for a fresh start, a new church plant. Pastor Brett Donald, from Living Waters Church in Langley, was approached to lead this new venture. Initially hesitant, Brett and his wife Natalie felt a pull towards this mission. They envisioned a church focused on prayer and active participation, a community where everyone is part of the mission. In the summer of 2010, a dedicated team renovated the building. That fall, they moved into the city, ready to serve. God’s provision was evident throughout the process. By 2011, Brett had transitioned to full-time church planting with the support of Living Waters and the C2C Network. CityLights Church officially launched its Sunday gatherings in September 2013. The church’s motto, “We are lights to the city. We are CityLights,” reflects their commitment to spreading the light of Jesus throughout Vancouver. In 2022, CityLights Church underwent a recalibration. Shifting from a traditional “come and see” model, they embraced a “grow and go” approach. This focuses on equipping members to be active disciples, multiplying their impact in the community. So, as you stand before CityLights Church, remember, it’s more than just a building.
