From its perch on the Prague skyline, City Empiria stands as a testament to architectural resilience. City Empiria, originally known as the Motokov Building, has been a prominent feature of Prague’s Pankrác district since its completion in 1977. This imposing skyscraper, the third tallest in the Czech Republic, was once the headquarters of the Czechoslovak trade company Motokov. Imagine the hustle and bustle of communist-era commerce within these walls.

City Empiria’s story isn’t just about steel and glass. It’s about transformation. The building has seen Prague shift from a communist capital to a vibrant European metropolis. Its own journey reflects this change. In 2001, ECM Real Estate Investments purchased the then somewhat dated structure. They embarked on a significant reconstruction project, modernizing City Empiria and giving it a new lease on life. This renovation, completed in 2005, included a redesigned façade, breathing fresh air into the aging giant. The building’s name also changed, from the utilitarian “Motokov” to the more aspirational “City Empiria.”

The City Empiria’s antenna spire reaches a height of 132 meters, while the roof itself tops out at 104 meters. Within its 27 floors, it houses a vast amount of office space, totaling 24,500 square meters. Think of all the stories unfolding within these walls, the deals struck, the ideas hatched. The building’s eight fast lifts whisk occupants to their destinations, a constant flow of activity within this vertical city. From its lofty heights, one can appreciate the panoramic views of Prague. You can see the bustling city below, a tapestry of history and modernity.

City Empiria’s story continued with another change of ownership. In 2010, it was sold to Generali PPF Holding for a staggering 1.8 billion CZK. This sale marked another chapter in the building’s history. It underscored its value not just as an office building, but as a landmark in the ever-evolving cityscape of Prague. This iconic skyscraper, once a symbol of communist-era trade, has truly become a symbol of Prague’s modern dynamism. City Empiria continues to stand tall, a silent observer of Prague’s ongoing narrative. It reminds us that change is constant and that even the most imposing structures can adapt and thrive in a changing world.
