A stroll down Churton Drive reveals the history of a suburb. Churton Park, as it is known today, was once just farmland. The tale of Churton Park began in the 1850s. That is when a man named Thomas Drake decided to try his luck raising sheep in the rolling hills of Churton Park. He was a pioneer, one of the first people to populate this area. Thomas Drake’s 200 sheep roamed freely. His dream was to build a thriving sheep farm in the green fields of Churton Park. Unfortunately, his plan was to change with time. This area was to become a popular location for housing. In the 1970s, the suburb was developed by John Dick Walker. He was also a pioneer for the area – a skilled visionary with big dreams for Churton Park. The suburb was named after Jock Churton. Jock was a director of Fletchers, a company that had many development projects in the 1960s and 1970s. One of the most impressive features of Churton Park is the Churton Park Reserve. It is a lovely spot with a recreational sports field, two schools, and a kindergarten. It’s a testament to the community spirit of Churton Park.
