Can a church rise from the ashes of another? Church On The Rise in Blouberg stands as a testament to such a rebirth. Born from the closure of the Observatory Assembly in 1990, Church On The Rise embarked on a nomadic journey. Pastor WJ Odendaal led the initial flock, holding services at Van Riebeeck Primary School and the Blouberg Library Hall. Imagine holding services in borrowed spaces, year after year, Church On The Rise persevered. In 1992, a plot of land, Erf 10224, was purchased, a beacon of hope for a permanent home. Years passed. The deed transfer finalized in 1999. Yet, the land remained vacant. A deadline loomed. If a church wasn’t built by 2003, the municipality could reclaim the land. In 2003, a dream sparked action. Brad Espin, a member of the church, dreamt of an investor offering the funds to build. This dream ignited the congregation. Construction began in August 2003. Church On The Rise held its first service in its new building on March 28, 2004. The church’s journey reflects its name. From borrowed spaces to a permanent sanctuary, Church On The Rise truly rose. It’s a story of perseverance, faith, and the power of dreams. Today, Church On The Rise continues to serve the community. You can find it at 84 Porterfield Road, at the corner of the R27 in Blouberg. Join them for a Sunday service at 9:30 am or a Wednesday gathering at 10 am.
