The initial twelve members met in a building owned by John Roadhouse. Roadhouse ran an undertaking and furniture business there. Reverend McGuire initially commuted from Toronto. He conducted services and prayer meetings.

Soon Reverend Richardson and his wife arrived. Mrs Richardson had been a missionary in China. She instilled a strong missionary spirit. She brought in international missionaries. They inspired the small congregation. The congregation began sending aid globally. They sent parcels clothing and medical supplies. Their missionary work became central to their identity. The Church of the Nazarene’s commitment to global missions continues to this day.

The Newmarket Church of the Nazarene thrived. It grew and eventually bought its rented building. A new parsonage was built. In 1955 a larger church was constructed. It seated around 300 people. The Church of the Nazarene in Toronto embodies the same spirit of growth and service.
