Consider this: a heritage-listed brick building stands before you. This is Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bondi Junction. It is a testament to faith and architectural style.

Holy Cross Catholic Church is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant part of the Woollahra parish. Its art deco design was conceived by Austin Mackay. Construction finished in 1940.

Let’s step back in time to October 10, 1939. The foundation stone was laid. A tablet commemorates this event in Latin. It states that Archbishop Norman Thomas Gilroy solemnly blessed and placed the stone for the Holy Cross.

The church actually opened its doors much earlier. That was in 1905.

Now, let’s talk about the present. Holy Cross offers regular services. Saturday Vigil Mass is at 5:30 pm. Sunday Mass is celebrated at 9:00 am and 6:00 pm. Weekday Masses are also available. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 7:30 am. Wednesday at 9:00 am and Saturday at 9:00 am.

Fr Terrence Millard is the current parish priest. He assumed this role in February 2019. Before Holy Cross, he served at St Bernadette’s in Carlton. He also worked in the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Sydney. Fr Terrence is actively involved in various Catholic Church groups. He is passionate about Christian formation. He supports married couples, students, and marginalised individuals.

The Holy Cross community welcomes everyone. It is supportive and vibrant. People gather here to share their faith in Jesus. They live out their faith by loving those around them. Sacraments strengthen their faith. The Holy Mass and Reconciliation are particularly important. Parishioners have a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Holy Cross also organises monthly religious events. These events are for both men and women.

Holy Cross Catholic Primary School is linked to the church. The school’s motto is “Nothing Without God”. The Sisters of Mercy’s charism is central to the school’s mission. They provide quality Catholic education based on Mercy values. These include compassion, love, justice, and respect.

The staff are committed to providing a stimulating learning environment. They cater to the individual needs of each student. They work as a team to ensure excellent teaching. Their goal is to instill a love of lifelong learning.
