Did you know that the Church of Christ Hurstville has been a part of this community since 1907? It all began with a meeting. Thomas Hagger and David Ewers convened it. It was held in the Hurstville Council Chambers on August 30th. The purpose? To discuss starting a Church of Christ in the area. Twenty-two people showed up that Friday evening.
The Church of Christ Hurstville officially opened its doors on October 13th, 1907. The building stands at 31 Macmahon Street. The architect is unknown. Today the Bidjigal people are known as the Traditional Owners of this land.
Hurstville Church of Christ strives to be a faithful community. It wants to be relevant to our multicultural society. The church has regular programs and activities. These inspire spiritual formation. It may be a small community. But it has big dreams. These are God-sized dreams.
The Church of Christ Hurstville believes in the Bible. They believe it is the inspired Word of God. It is infallible and authoritative. The Bible reveals God’s will for salvation.
They believe in one God. This God exists in three persons. These are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He became flesh to reveal God. He became the savior of the lost world.
The church believes every person was created in God’s image. People were meant to have fellowship with Him. But sin alienated people from God. Now, people cannot come back to God on their own.
The Church of Christ Hurstville preaches salvation. It says that Jesus’ blood provides forgiveness. Salvation comes when someone trusts in Jesus’ death. They must believe He paid for their sin.
The church itself is the body of Christ. Jesus Christ is the head. Members are those who trust in Christ’s work. The church’s purpose is to glorify God. It does this by loving Him. Also it makes Him known to the world.

Tanwin is passionate about studying and teaching the Bible. He wants to edify the local church. He has been involved in church life since he was young. He believes the local church is God’s way of presenting the gospel. He wants to see lives changed through discipleship.
Tanwin wants to share the “better story”. He wants to share that Jesus’ death and resurrection is a reality. It still changes lives. God invites us to be part of His story through Jesus.
The Church of Christ Hurstville has had many leaders. J. E. Allan was a student minister in 1908-1909. Rev. J. S. Garden served from 1912-1916. The list goes on to include Jasmine Capell in 2020. Each cleric has contributed to the church’s long history.
