During the late 1970s, the Government Communications Headquarters established a signals intelligence center here. Operations consolidated in 1982. However, this intelligence site closed in 1995.
Chung Hom Kok Beach is a popular spot. Find it on the western shore of Chung Hom Wan. Lifeguard services are available from April to October. This makes it great for swimming.

Did you know Chung Hom Kok has historical significance? The Chung Hom Kok Battery was constructed around 1938. You can find it at the peninsula’s southern end. It’s listed as a Grade II historic building. During heavy rain, the circular cement structure of the Battery accumulates water.
Local legend speaks of a narrow cave below Chung Hom Kok Battery. It’s called Cheung Po Tsai Cave. The Qing dynasty pirate Cheung Po Tsai supposedly used it as a shelter.
Chung Hom Kok also serves a modern purpose. It acts as a hub for internet cables and cable landing stations. SUNeVision Holdings built two carrier-neutral cable landing stations here since 2020.
Families living in Chung Hom Kok have access to education. The area falls within Primary One Admission School Net 18. This includes several aided schools plus the Hong Kong Southern District Government Primary School.
While Chung Hom Kok is mainly residential, shopping and dining are not far. Residents can head to nearby Repulse Bay and Stanley. The Repulse Bay Shopping Arcade and Stanley Plaza offer retail therapy.
