Imagine the soft sand between your toes. This is Chung Hom Kok Beach. It is a hidden gem on Hong Kong Island. Tucked away from the bustling city, Chung Hom Kok Beach offers a tranquil escape.

Chung Hom Kok is more than just a beach. It is a place steeped in history. Once a small village, Chung Hom Kok had a population of only 10 in 1911. Today, it is known for its beautiful beach and historical sites.

Chung Hom Kok Beach is located on the western shore of Chung Hom Kok. It sits in Chung Hom Wan. This beach is a popular spot for swimming and barbecues. Lifeguard services are available from April to October.

But there’s more to Chung Hom Kok than meets the eye. Did you know that Chung Hom Kok was once home to a top-secret signals intelligence center? The Government Communications Headquarters operated here from the late 1970s until 1995.

For those interested in history, Chung Hom Kok Battery is a must-see. Built around 1938, this historic site is a Grade II listed building. It once defended Hong Kong’s southern coastline.

Legend says that the Qing dynasty pirate Cheung Po Tsai used a narrow cave near the battery as a shelter. The cave is called Cheung Po Tsai Cave.

Chung Hom Kok is also a hub for modern technology. SUNeVision Holdings, a major data center provider, has built two cable landing stations here since 2020. These stations connect Hong Kong to the world through internet cables.

Families will find plenty to enjoy at Chung Hom Kok Beach. There are barbecue pits for picnics and a playground for children. The playground has slides, swings, and climbing frames.

Getting to Chung Hom Kok Beach is easy. You can take bus 6 from Central to Chung Hom Kok. Get off at the roundabout and walk downhill to the beach.

Chung Hom Kok Beach is a clean and quiet place to relax. The water is clear. You can sit on the beach and enjoy the view of Ocean Park and the islands. You might even find some sea glass while you are here.

But beware, getting to Chung Hom Kok Beach requires going down many steps.

Chung Hom Kok Battery suffered damage during recent severe weather. The circular cement structure accumulated water. Restoration work is needed to preserve this cultural heritage site. The government plans to add information boards to educate the public about its history.
