Founded in 1935 Chun Tok School initially housed just six students. Three Christian missionaries Ms Pope Ms Griffin and Ms Elliott started the school then known as the Hong Kong School for the Deaf. They used three University of Hong Kong female dormitory rooms as classrooms. The school’s location was on Babington Path. Parents soon realized the benefits of early specialized education for hearing-impaired children. Enrollment at Chun Tok School grew rapidly.

In 1948 Chun Tok School moved to its current Diamond Hill location. The school offered both primary and secondary special education. It followed a mainstream education curriculum. This meant that the students at Chun Tok School learned the same things as students in regular schools. However they received specialized support tailored to their needs.

Chun Tok School expanded its services further. In 1993 and 1998 they established primary and secondary Enhanced Supportive Services. These services provided extra academic and language support. Social adaptation counseling was also offered. The aim was to help hearing-impaired students thrive in mainstream schools. An in-school service and an outreach center in the New Territories supported mainstreamed students and their families.

In 2004 Chun Tok School started enrolling primary one mainstream students. The school was renamed Chun Tok School. Each mainstream class has 25 to 27 students. Chun Tok School’s motto is Faith Hope and Love. The school uses activity teaching and guidance and discipline counseling. This helps students become independent and responsible citizens. The school believes every child has the potential to succeed. No student should be left behind. Chun Tok School continues to provide quality education to students of all abilities. It offers a caring and attentive learning environment. Respect is at the heart of the Chun Tok School experience. The school still offers full-time secondary special education and Enhanced Supportive Services.
