Before you stretches a tranquil bay. This is Chuk Tsai Wan. Also known as Tsam Chuk Wan. It is a place of history and serene beauty on the Sai Kung Peninsula in Hong Kong.

Tsam Chuk Wan is more than just a bay. The name also refers to the surrounding area. The area includes Tsam Chuk Wan Village.

Let’s journey back in time. We will discover the layers of history woven into this coastal area. In the 1860s, Catholic missionaries established a station here. They spread their message between 1867 and 1869.

In 1911, the area around Pak Tam Chung included six villages. These villages included Wong Yi Chau, Pak Tam, and Sheung Yiu. Tsak Yue Wu, Wong Keng Tei, and Tsam Chuk Wan were also included. Most villagers were Hakka people. But two hamlets in Pak Tam had a different heritage.

Tsam Chuk Wan Village had a population of 74 in 1911. By the 1950s, the population decreased. It was around 55 people. Austin Coates and James W. Hayes recorded this change.

Now, look out towards the water. Several islands dot Tsam Chuk Wan. Muk Yue Chau is one. Ching Chau, Nga Ying Chau, and Wong Nai Chau Tsai are others. You can also spot Wong Yi Chau.

Around the bay, you can find some interesting features. To the west, there is a memorial. It honors the Sai Kung Martyrs of World War II. It was unveiled in 1989.

The Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps Tang Shiu Kin Nautical Centre is here. Queen Elizabeth School Camp is nearby too.

Tsam Chuk Wan Village is a recognized village. It falls under the New Territories Small House Policy.

You may also notice the Wong Keng Tei Tin Hau Temple. Locals also call it Tsam Chuk Wan Tin Hau Temple. It overlooks Tsam Chuk Wan off Tai Mong Tsai Road.

Wong Keng Tei is another village in this area. Po Leung Kuk Pak Tam Chung Camp also sits nearby.

The Sheung Yiu Folk Museum is housed in Sheung Yiu Village. It is a declared monument of Hong Kong.

Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows Chapel stands as a testament to history. It was built in 1900. It is one of Sai Kung’s historic churches.

Tsam Chuk Wan offers a glimpse into Hong Kong’s past. It is a blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty. Take a moment to appreciate the stories this bay holds.
