Mr. Chong contacted Mr. Albert C. C. Lam. Mr. Lam referred him to the Education Department. The Christian Brothers planned a school in Chaiwan a poorer area. This aligned with Mr. and Mrs. Chong’s vision. An agreement was drawn. Mr. Chong Gene Hang contributed $500,000. This generous donation helped establish a secondary school in Chaiwan. It was named Chong Gene Hang College in his honor.
Chong Gene Hang College opened its doors in 1971. It was the first secondary school in Chai Wan. The school’s motto is “Labore et Virtute”. This translates to “By hard work and virtue”. The college promotes humanistic and Christian values. The La Salle Brothers are affiliated with Chong Gene Hang College. This is a government-aided Catholic school.
