Built on a former quarry, Choi Tak Estate whispers stories of transformation. Choi Tak Estate isn’t just a collection of buildings. It’s a testament to Hong Kong’s ability to reshape its landscape, both literally and figuratively. Originally known as Choi Wan Road Site 2 and Choi Wan Road Site 3A, Choi Tak Estate stands in Ping Shan, Kowloon. The estate, completed in two phases in 2010 and 2011, comprises eight blocks and houses 5,800 units. Imagine the lives lived within these walls, the families who call Choi Tak Estate home.

The Housing Authority cleverly incorporated the area’s past into the present. Under Choi King House, Choi Leung House, Choi Yin House, and the Choi Tak Shopping Centre, you’ll find the “Choi Wan Road Historical Trail”. This trail, with its pictures and historical displays, tells the story of the quarry, offering a glimpse into the lives of the people who worked there. Choi Tak Estate isn’t just about modern living. It’s a bridge between the past and the present, a reminder of the area’s history.

The 2016 census painted a picture of Choi Tak Estate’s residents. The population was around 17,420, with a median age of 40.7. Most residents, about 97.8 percent, were of Chinese ethnicity. The average household size was three people, and the median monthly household income was HK$21,520. These statistics offer a snapshot of the community within Choi Tak Estate. They hint at the diversity of experiences and the shared reality of life in this vibrant corner of Hong Kong. Choi Tak Estate is part of the Kwun Tong District Council, represented by Tam Siu-cheuk, elected in 2019. For families with young children, Choi Tak Estate falls within Primary One Admission (POA) School Net 46.
