Opened in August 1986, Choi Sai Woo Park is more than just a green space. It’s a neighborhood hub with a unique past.

Choi Sai Woo Park got its name from a reservoir. The Choi Sai Woo Reservoir once sat where we stand. Taikoo Sugar Company Limited built it in 1894. It became the largest of their five private reservoirs.

During a drought and bubonic plague, the reservoir aided Tai Ping Shan District. Later, Li Ka-shing filled it to create this park.

World War II saw fighting here. The Japanese advanced toward Wong Nai Chung Gap. They aimed to split Hong Kong’s defenses. Choi Sai Woo Park was a battleground.

The Urban Council spent $9.5 million to build Choi Sai Woo Park. Designers aimed to preserve the existing trees and shrubs. An opening ceremony occurred on January 16, 1987. Kim Cham and the Director of Urban Services officiated.

Today, Choi Sai Woo Park covers 2,400 square meters. It provides a touch of nature near housing estates and schools. The park serves as a place for relaxation.

You will find two basketball courts in Choi Sai Woo Park. A garden area with bamboo sits at the bottom. A children’s playground and pagoda are at the top. Nearby, you’ll find a restaurant, tea shop, and convenience stores. Choi Sai Woo Park blends history and recreation. It serves as a reminder of Hong Kong’s past. It is a place where battles occurred.
