In 1965, amidst the vibrant tapestry of Hong Kong, Choi Hung Estate Catholic Secondary School opened its doors. This all-boys school, nestled within the Choi Hung Estate of Wong Tai Sin district, embarked on a mission to nurture young minds. Choi Hung Estate Catholic Secondary School, also known as CHECSS, aimed to instill values of truth, righteousness, love, life, and family. Initially, the school shared its premises with Sanpokong Catholic Secondary School. In its first year, Choi Hung Estate Catholic Secondary School had just 11 classes, 440 students, and 14 teachers. The school’s motto, “Spes Salus,” meaning “Hope and Salvation,” reflected the Catholic ethos. The school crest symbolized Christ’s light, inspiring hope even in challenging times. Choi Hung Estate Catholic Secondary School expanded over the years. It currently has 24 classrooms and offers a diverse range of subjects. Besides the core curriculum, students can explore electives such as Travel and Hospitality, Information and Communication Technology, and Visual Arts. The school believes in holistic development. It encourages extracurricular activities, with over 30 clubs catering to various interests. These clubs range from sports like basketball and soccer to academic pursuits and religious societies. Choi Hung Estate Catholic Secondary School also fosters a strong athletic spirit. Its basketball team has won numerous championships, showcasing the students’ dedication. The school has a tradition of publishing its newspaper, providing a platform for students to share their experiences. Anniversary celebrations and special events are marked with commemorative publications. Choi Hung Estate Catholic Secondary School also maintains a strong partnership with a sister school in Taiwan, fostering cultural exchange. The current principal is the first woman to hold the position, marking a significant milestone in the school’s history.
