This is where the first steam train arrived on April 24th, 1904. It is also near the Grand Victoria Falls Hotel. The hotel was built to house engineers working on the Victoria Falls Bridge.
As you arrive at Chipala Cultural Experience, senior Ndebele warriors warmly greet you. Their personal guards escort you to the dining area. Liveried waiters stand ready. In winter, they offer hot spiced wine. You can also enjoy an Amarula cocktail or another drink of your choice.
Warm yourselves around the “mbawuras”. These are fire buckets in the local language. They surround the eating area. Or sit at candlelit tables. Handmade African fabrics adorn the space. Crockery and carvings add to the charm. Teak furniture and canvas dining chairs enchant every traveler. Ethnic bites await you on the tables. Sample matemba, mopani worms, and ground nuts. A Zambezi marimba band welcomes you. They create unique melodies with their wooden keys.
Dinner is served in the traditional way. It is an open-style buffet. Foods are freshly prepared and presented stylishly. Try game meat in various forms. The hunter’s pot of the day is always a good choice. For those less adventurous, Zimbabwe offers vegetarian dishes to delight everyone.
