Envision the bustling energy of Trieste’s Barriera neighborhood in 1935. A modest church, Chiesa parrocchiale Santa Teresa del Bambino Gesù, opened its doors. Initially, it served as a branch of the larger San Vincenzo de’ Paoli church. However, Chiesa parrocchiale Santa Teresa del Bambino Gesù quickly gained its own identity. It became independent in 1948 and a full-fledged parish in 1949, drawing its territory from San Vincenzo de’ Paoli. Chiesa parrocchiale Santa Teresa del Bambino Gesù even received civil recognition in 1957. The original structure, however, soon proved too small. The church lacked space for its growing congregation and its various ministries. A decision was made to replace the small chapel with an entirely new parish complex. Construction began in 1970, based on the designs of architects Carlo and Luciano Celli, along with Dario Tognon. The new Chiesa parrocchiale Santa Teresa del Bambino Gesù, retaining its original dedication to Saint Therese of Lisieux, was completed and consecrated in 1973 by Archbishop Antonio Santin. A unique feature of Chiesa parrocchiale Santa Teresa del Bambino Gesù is its baptistery. Added in April 2011, it features striking mosaics depicting the Lamb of God enthroned. This modern addition complements the church’s rich history, symbolizing the continuous renewal of faith within its walls. So, as you stand before Chiesa parrocchiale Santa Teresa del Bambino Gesù, remember its humble beginnings. Appreciate its growth into a vital community center, a testament to the enduring spirit of the Barriera neighborhood.
