“Peace be with you” is not just a greeting here. It is the essence of Chiesa di Maria Regina Pacis. This church stands as a beacon of hope. It is located on Via Commerciale in Trieste.
Let’s step back in time to February 1948. Bishop Antonio Santin blessed a small devotional chapel. It was dedicated to Mary under the title Regina della Pace meaning Queen of Peace. This humble beginning marked the start of something special. It was a place where people could seek solace. They hoped for an end to the world’s conflicts.
As Trieste grew so did the need for a larger parish. On June 24 1986 the new parish of Regina Pacis was established. It took territory from the parishes of Santi Ermacora e Fortunato. Land was also taken from Immacolato Cuore di Maria and Santi Pietro e Paolo. The church became the parish seat. This was a significant moment for the community.
The Italian state recognized the parish on August 6 1987. The church building underwent a major transformation. Architect Mauro Cosmini designed the restoration and expansion. Two lateral naves were added. This provided more space for worshipers.
Finally on October 20 2001 Bishop Eugenio Ravignani consecrated the expanded Chiesa di Maria Regina Pacis. This marked the culmination of years of effort. The community had a beautiful and spacious church. It was a place to gather and celebrate their faith.
Today Chiesa di Maria Regina Pacis serves a community of about 2492 residents. The parish office is located at Via Commerciale 167. Here Father Giovanni Boer leads the congregation. He continues the mission of peace and faith.
