Did the very stones of Chiesa Cattolica Parrocchiale Ss. Pietro e Paolo witness the Christmas of 1939? That year, the first place of worship in Trieste’s Cologna neighborhood humbly opened in a private building’s basement. This makeshift church, far from the bustling city center and its main parish of Sant’Antonio Taumaturgo, served the community’s spiritual needs. Fast forward to 1966. The Chiesa Cattolica Parrocchiale Ss. Pietro e Paolo, as we know it today, took shape under the guidance of architect Umberto Nordio. This new church, blessed on December 23, 1966, and consecrated two years later, replaced the modest basement sanctuary. The establishment of the parish itself dates back to December 10, 1954. It was carved out from parts of Sant’Antonio Taumaturgo, Immacolato Cuore di Maria, and S. Giovanni Decollato parishes. Chiesa Cattolica Parrocchiale Ss. Pietro e Paolo gained its autonomy on November 25, 1956, and civil recognition followed soon after. Today, the Chiesa Cattolica Parrocchiale Ss. Pietro e Paolo continues to serve the community. It’s a modern testament to faith, rising from humble beginnings in a city rich with history. The parish also oversees the Oratorio dei Ss. Pietro e Paolo, located at the same address, offering additional community spaces. Beyond its main function, the Chiesa Cattolica Parrocchiale Ss. Pietro e Paolo also houses the Rectory of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. This unique aspect adds another layer to the spiritual life of the parish. If you visit during the week, you can attend Mass at 7 PM. On Sundays, Mass is celebrated at both 10:30 AM and 7 PM. The church also offers daily Lodi at 8 AM (10 AM on Sundays) and Vespers at 6:40 PM, providing ample opportunities for spiritual reflection.
