Miss Effie Hurst was an important member. She prayed for guidance. She rose before 5 a.m. to seek divine intervention. Her prayers were for a pastor. She prayed that he would lead the church through its challenges.
God answered her prayers. Matt Nettesheim became the pastor on June 28 2009. Only 14 members remained.
Pastor Matt Nettesheim arrived with his wife and seven children. Together they revitalized the church. They began planting and watering the seeds of faith. New gospel tracts were printed. Big days were planned. Soul winning became a focus. God began adding families to Chesapeake Baptist Church. Lives were changed. New ministries were added. God received all the glory.
It’s easy to see God’s work. Chesapeake Baptist Church has come far in a few years. The fields are still white unto harvest. Many souls still need a savior. God still has big plans for this growing church.

Pastor Matt Nettesheim’s life changed on September 10 1994. He trusted Christ as his savior. He has a passion for introducing others to Christ. He wants to see them grow in faith.
Sensing God’s call Nettesheim attended Bible Institute. He graduated in 2004. He founded a military ministry. He taught a couples class. He became the music minister.
Nettesheim was called to Chesapeake Baptist Church in 2009. The church was struggling. It could offer no salary. God has blessed them since then. The congregation grew significantly.
Pastor Matt Nettesheim loves his church. Chesapeake Baptist Church maintains a close-knit family atmosphere. They have a passion for serving others. The church engages in strategic ministry.
