“Achieving Together” is not just a motto. It is the guiding principle of Cherrybrook Technology High School. Established in 1992, Cherrybrook Technology High School quickly became known as an innovative school. It stands as a beacon of modern education in the heart of Cherrybrook.
Cherrybrook Technology High School was built to accommodate Sydney’s growing north-west. The school’s development began in the late 1980s. The location was once orchards near John Purchase Public School.
The NSW government wanted to create a chain of technology schools. Terry Metherell and IBM’s Brian Finn discussed the idea. This led to Cherrybrook becoming a technology-focused school.
Lyn Wendtman became the first principal in 1990. Peter Gillam and Dave Wilson were her deputies. They managed negotiations between businesses and builders. They also developed the school’s council and policies.
The first students learned at Pennant Hills High School in 1991. They moved to Cherrybrook Technology High School in 1992. By 2008, the school had almost 2,000 students. That made it one of the largest in New South Wales.
Staff were selected based on merit. The school officially opened on May 15, 1992. Premier Nick Greiner attended the ceremony.
Cherrybrook Technology High School has a strong sense of community. This is reflected in its sports houses. The houses are named Charles, Taylor, Harrison, and Strickland. These names create the acronym CTHS.
Charles House represents community. It honors Timothy Charles, the first P&C president. Taylor House represents technology. It is named after Headlie Taylor, an inventor. Harrison House represents history. It is named after the Harrison family who settled in the area in 1893. Strickland House represents sport. It honors Shirley Strickland, an Olympic medalist.
Each year, Cherrybrook Technology High School produces a play or musical. Productions have included “Romeo and Juliet” and “Grease”. In 2024, the school performed “High School Musical”.
The Student Representative Council is very active. They organize events to raise money for charities. These events include “Wacky Hair Day” and “Super Mega Happy Week”.
Cherrybrook Technology High School boasts advanced facilities. These include science laboratories and a lecture theatre. There is also an agriculture area with animals and plants. The school has specialist rooms for music, art and dance.
Many talented individuals have passed through Cherrybrook Tech. Alumni include actors, musicians, and athletes. Eddie Woo, a famous maths teacher, is also a notable staff member.
Cherrybrook Technology High School is more than just a school. It is a place where students achieve together. The school continues to evolve. It embraces technology. Cherrybrook prepares students for the future.
