Centro Universitário FEI’s history is quite interesting. It started as the Faculdade de Engenharia Industrial. That’s Portuguese for Faculty of Industrial Engineering. Later, FEI stood for Fundação Educacional Inaciana. This means Educational Foundation of Ignatius.

In 2002, FEI became a university center. It integrated several schools and institutes under one administration. This included the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and the School of Business Administration.

The main campus in São Bernardo do Campo is massive. It spans 243,000 square meters. That equals 29 soccer fields. The campus houses engineering, business administration and computer science programs. The São Paulo campus is smaller. It focuses on business administration and technology specializations.

FEI sponsors a team for Baja SAE. Students design and build an off-road vehicle. FEI won several awards in this competition. In 2006, FEI researchers sent an experiment to the International Space Station. Brazilian astronaut Marcos Pontes conducted the research.
