Have you ever wondered what happened to a college that simply vanished? Here at 3 Wah Lam Path, Pokfulam, stood Centennial College. Established in 2012, Centennial College was a private institution, linked to the prestigious University of Hong Kong. It was the second private subsidiary of the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education. Centennial College even had the official recognition as an Approved Post Secondary College under the Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance. The University of Hong Kong oversaw much of Centennial College’s operations. They handled personnel, admissions, and financial matters. But a shadow loomed over Centennial College. Enrollment dwindled. The college struggled financially. By 2019, Centennial College stopped accepting new students. The plan was to close completely by the 2021/22 academic year. However, instead of vanishing entirely, Centennial College merged with the Community College of the School of Professional and Continuing Education at the University of Hong Kong. So, while the physical presence of Centennial College might be gone, its spirit, in a way, lives on.
