Look closer. The reddish-brown sandstone from the Vosges Mountains gives the Cathedral its distinctive color. The sculptures are full of emotion. The prophets appear severe the Virgins serene. Even the frivolous virgins are distinctly foolish. Every detail speaks of the skill and devotion of countless artisans.

The interior is equally awe-inspiring. Marvel at the towering pillars the stained-glass windows some dating back to the 12th century. Examine the pulpit crafted by Hans Hammer in 1485. Note the small sculpture of a dog mourning its master. This is a tribute to the renowned preacher Johann Geiler von Kaysersberg.
