Opened in 1982 Castle Towers wasn’t always the giant it is today. Initially it housed familiar names like Kmart Coles and Norman Ross. These stores formed the heart of a smaller shopping center. Imagine the excitement of the Castle Hill community. Their local shopping scene was transformed.

Castle Towers’ expansion was a multi-stage project. In 1991 it welcomed David Jones and Franklins. Target replaced Norman Ross in 1993. The addition of a Greater Union cinema complex in 1993 and a second in 1999 further boosted its appeal. These weren’t just cinemas. They were entertainment destinations.

The year 2000 saw more significant changes. Target and David Jones expanded. Food For Less and Bi-Lo joined the mix. This replaced Franklins which moved to a nearby Castle Mall. Seventy-six new stores opened. Castle Towers was quickly becoming a regional shopping hub.

A major milestone occurred in 2007. Dan Murphy’s replaced Food For Less. This signaled a shift in the centre’s offerings. More than just groceries. Premium brands were becoming a priority. In 2009 a state-of-the-art Event Cinemas complex opened. It boasted five screens including a world-first Gold Class cinema. This showcased cutting-edge digital projection and electronically reclining chairs. Myer also added a floor and relaunched as a three-level store.

A $20 million car park upgrade between 2013 and 2014 modernized parking. Electronic parking guidance technology improved the experience for shoppers. Upgrades included new paint better lighting and improved signage. This investment showcased the centre’s commitment to its customers.

A massive $180 million expansion opened in 2019. This included an underground pedestrian tunnel linking the centre to Castle Hill station. This significantly improved accessibility. A new food court and more retailers added to its allure. The project was phase one of a larger master plan. This demonstrated the ongoing development and commitment to Castle Towers’ growth.

This wasn’t merely the addition of shops and cinemas. It was the evolution of Castle Towers into a key element of Castle Hill’s identity. From its humble beginnings it became a shopping centre attracting visitors and shoppers from across Sydney. The continued expansion and upgrades reflect the ongoing success and commitment to its community. Castle Towers is more than a shopping centre. It is a testament to community growth and ambition.
