Deep within the heart of Ribeirão Pires, São Paulo, stands a testament to one man’s vision: the Castelo de Robson Miguel. It’s not just a castle. It’s a symphony in stone and wood, a tribute to music, history, and the enduring allure of castles. Robson Miguel, a musician who spent years serenading audiences, dreamt of building his own castle. He drew inspiration from the grand castles of Europe, visiting 78 such structures in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and England. During his travels, he discovered that the guitar, his beloved instrument, had a rich history dating back to medieval courts. This realization ignited his passion to create a space that honored both his musical heritage and the architectural grandeur of European castles. Upon returning to Brazil, he began to transform his dream into reality. The Castelo de Robson Miguel took five years to build, funded entirely by Robson Miguel himself. It was inaugurated on August 28, 1999, and today, it stands as a unique landmark. The castle boasts a sprawling area of 2,056 square meters and is valued at an impressive R$10 million. It’s more than just a beautiful building. It’s an experience. The castle features 11 underground tunnels with secret passages, evoking the intrigue and mystery of ancient fortresses. There are also 77 hidden “eyes” – small openings in the walls that allow one to observe without being seen. Robson Miguel, with his mixed Afro-Indigenous heritage, also incorporated elements of Black and Indigenous history into the castle’s design. Replicas of shackles, prisons, and a pillory serve as poignant reminders of a darker past. But above all, the Castelo de Robson Miguel is a celebration of music. It’s an artistic and historical expression of Robson Miguel’s lifelong passion. The castle captures the childhood wonder and fascination with these majestic structures. It’s a place where fantasy becomes reality, where visitors can step into a world of turrets, secret passages, and musical inspiration.
