Is this the heart of Honduras? It certainly appears so, standing before the grand Casa Presidencial. This imposing building, once the heart of Honduran political power, has borne witness to over a century of the nation’s history. The Casa Presidencial was first envisioned in 1916 under President Francisco Bertrand. However, its completion wouldn’t be until 1922 during Rafael López Gutiérrez’s term. He had the honor of being the first president to call Casa Presidencial home. Imagine the echoes of history within these walls. Each room whispers tales of the past. The last president to govern from Casa Presidencial was Rafael Leonardo Callejas. This marked the end of an era, as the presidential offices were moved to a new location on Juan Pablo II Boulevard in 1992. But the Casa Presidencial’s story didn’t end there. Today, it stands as a proud reminder of Honduras’s vibrant past.
