Caritas St. Joseph Secondary School. A name whispered with respect in Tsing Yi Estate. But what secrets does this seemingly ordinary school hold? Our journey begins in 1971, not here on Tsing Yi Island, but across the waters in Tsuen Wan. There, under the guidance of Caritas Hong Kong, the Caritas St. Joseph Prevocational School opened its doors. Initially a haven for boys seeking vocational training, the school evolved, mirroring the changing needs of Hong Kong. In 1989, Caritas St. Joseph Prevocational School embarked on a new chapter, relocating to its current home in Tsing Yi Estate. Imagine the bustle and excitement as students and teachers crossed the waters, bringing with them the spirit of dedication and practical learning. The transition wasn’t without its challenges. The new building, while modern, wasn’t initially equipped for the full prevocational curriculum. Some classes still had to journey back to the old Tsuen Wan campus for their practical lessons. This continued until necessary renovations were completed, solidifying Caritas St. Joseph’s presence on Tsing Yi. The year 2001 marked another significant transformation. Reflecting a shift in educational policy in Hong Kong, the school officially became Caritas St. Joseph Secondary School. The name change symbolized a broader curriculum, preparing students not just for trades, but for a rapidly evolving world. Caritas St. Joseph Secondary School has seen its share of difficult moments. In 2021, a bullying incident involving a Form 1 student shook the community. The school acted swiftly, working with families and authorities to address the situation and reinforce its commitment to a safe learning environment. Today, Caritas St. Joseph Secondary School stands as a testament to its motto: “Loyalty, Diligence, Respect for God, Love for Others”. It continues to nurture generations of students, providing them with the tools to thrive in a dynamic world.
