In 1903 Amábile now known as Madre Paulina was elected Superiora Geral. She moved to São Paulo’s Ipiranga district. There she dedicated herself to caring for orphaned children and elderly former slaves. Her tireless work expanded the congregation throughout Santa Catarina and São Paulo.
But even saints face trials. In 1909 she was removed from her leadership position. Sent to Bragança Paulista she continued her service humbly caring for the sick and elderly.
