Did the twin friars ever imagine their impact on Capela Nossa Senhora de Fátima? In the heart of Sapopemba, São Paulo, stands this sanctuary. It’s a testament to faith and brotherhood, built upon a foundation of service and devotion. Let’s step back to April 1968. The newly appointed vicar, Frei Mateus Gaspar Lopes, arrived at the Santuário Nossa Senhora de Fátima e São Roque. He was joined by his twin brother, Frei Jerônimo, and Frei Anselmo Marcondes. Frei Anselmo had already been serving the sanctuary since February. This marked the beginning of the Capuchin friars’ tenure at Capela Nossa Senhora de Fátima. The original church and convent were situated on land owned by the Mitra Diocesana de São Paulo. This land was generously donated to the order in July 1971. The friars embarked on a mission. They envisioned a new, spacious, and functional church. This new church would also include all necessary facilities. By May 1971, the crypt of the church, the Capela da Ressurreição (Ossuário), was inaugurated. This was a testament to their dedication and hard work. The Capela Nossa Senhora de Fátima isn’t just a building. It’s a vibrant hub of community and faith. The legacy of the twin friars, along with Frei Anselmo, continues to resonate within its walls. Their dedication laid the groundwork for the beloved sanctuary that stands today.
