Here at Cammeraygal High School, learning means more than textbooks. This school stands as a testament to the power of community and the enduring spirit of education. Cammeraygal High School opened its doors in January 2015.
The school’s name pays homage to the Cammeraygal people. They are a clan of the Eora tribe. They were the original inhabitants of this land.
Before Cammeraygal High School, this site held a rich history. It was once home to North Sydney Girls High School from 1914 until 1993. Then, Bradfield College took over. The buildings are now a heritage site.
In 2014, the Department of Education decided to create a new public high school here. Some wanted to revive the name “Crows Nest High”. But Cammeraygal High School was chosen.
Cammeraygal High School has two campuses. The junior campus is for Years 7 to 9. It’s on the original Pacific Highway site. The senior campus is for Years 10 to 12. It’s located on West Street. It was formerly the Crows Nest TAFE Campus. In 2019, the senior campus gained a new art hall with a basketball court and stage.
Cammeraygal High School fosters a sense of belonging. The school uses a house system. The houses are named after Australian sports icons. There is Freeman house named after Cathy Freeman. Goodes house is named after Adam Goodes. Hughes house is named after Phillip Hughes. Stosur house is named after Samantha Stosur. These houses compete in sporting events like swimming and athletics.
Cammeraygal High School offers many sports. Students in Years 7 to 10 participate in term sports. There are also extracurricular sports and knockout competitions.
In 2020, Cammeraygal High School celebrated its first graduating class. The school continues to evolve. It prepares students to be “Empowered to Achieve”. Cammeraygal High School has a dedicated staff. It also has active parent support. This school is more than just a place of learning. It is a place where students grow and thrive.
