In 1929, a determined group sought a permanent spiritual home. This group would soon become Calvary Church Toronto. They found a plot of land at 746 Pape Avenue. Imagine the excitement as plans were drawn for a “basement church,” designed to hold 600 souls. Calvary Church Toronto first opened its doors on February 2, 1930. The congregation thrived. In 1951, they expanded, adding an auditorium to the existing structure. Calvary Church Toronto continued to grow. A new Christian Education Building, complete with a gymnasium and Sunday School classrooms, was built in 1962. The church has seen several renovations over the years. In 1971, the Sunday School area was updated. The auditorium got a refresh in 1978. More recently, a new elevator was installed in 2016. Extensive renovations to the basement, including the children’s wing, began in 2015 and are still ongoing. Calvary Church Toronto, located at 746 Pape Avenue, continues to serve the community. The current ministry team includes Reverend Daniel Winter as Senior Pastor and Reverend John McNeill as Associate Pastor. Wendy Winter leads the Children’s Ministry. Reverend Alain Virgin serves as Associate and Youth Pastor. Jonathan Smith leads worship. Calvary Church Toronto has been a beacon of faith for decades. It remains a vibrant part of the Toronto community.
