Over 5000 vinyl records greet you at Byrdland Records. This isn’t just any record store. It’s a vibrant hub in Washington DC’s Union Market. Byrdland Records is more than just a place to buy music. It’s a carefully curated collection of jazz blues and Americana. Local and independent artists are also prominently featured. The store is an offshoot of Songbyrd Music House. Co-founders Alisha Edmondson and Joe Lapan envisioned a space to recapture the communal experience of listening to music. They even drew inspiration from Classic Album Sundays in Brooklyn. The move to Union Market in 2020 wasn’t easy. The pandemic presented challenges. Yet Byrdland Records thrived. It even offered online sales during lockdowns. The spacious Union Market location is a welcome change from their smaller Adams Morgan space. The store showcases not just vinyl but also turntables and other audio equipment. Byrdland Records hosts in-store performances and events. This creates a lively atmosphere for music enthusiasts. The founders believe in the ritual of playing records. They highlight the experience of selecting a record carefully placing the needle and immersing oneself in the music. Byrdland Records is more than a record store. It is a community. A place where people connect through a shared love of music. It is a testament to the enduring power of vinyl and the passion of its owners. Step inside Byrdland Records. Experience the magic of music firsthand.
