Perhaps it’s the gentle flutter of wings that first catches your attention here at Butterfly Paradise. This enchanting garden is a haven for both orchids and butterflies. It offers a unique experience for nature lovers.

Butterfly Paradise is actually within Shenzhen’s Fairy Lake Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden was established in 1983. It is a multifunctional space for scientific research, tourism, and education. The garden covers a vast area of 588 hectares.

Within the Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, you will find Orchid and Butterfly Valley. It is a themed garden dedicated to these delicate creatures. The Orchid and Butterfly Valley has three main sections. These are Butterflies and Orchids, the Butterflies Show, and the Orchid Valley.

Butterflies and Orchids is the main section near the entrance. Here, many beautiful and unique orchids are conserved. You can find boat orchids and dancing ladies. Also, there are Dendrobium, Phaius, Venus slippers, Calanthe, Arundina, and Bulbophyllum. Nectar-rich plants attract butterflies to the valley.

The Butterflies Show is in the middle of the valley. A small streamlet divides the space. There is a scallop-shaped exhibition house on each side. The Butterfly House displays butterfly knowledge and specimens. The Orchid House displays orchid knowledge and specimens.

Orchid Valley is natural and quiet. A circular wooden plank road connects it. Various epiphytic orchids and shade-tolerant plants are on display.

The Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, where Butterfly Paradise resides, boasts over 12,000 plant species. Thanks to the favorable climate, the garden is divided into 17 special gardens. These include a Rare Plant Garden, Palm Plant Garden, and Bamboo Garden. You will also find a Peach Garden and a Desert Landscape Garden.

Beyond the Butterfly Paradise, explore the six main landscape areas. Paradise on Earth Area offers serene pools. The Fossil Forest Area features the Paleontological Museum.

The Paleontological Museum displays fossil samples of animals and plants. It houses over 9,000 fossil samples. The museum has three exhibition areas. They showcase fossil wood, animal fossils, and plant fossils.

Getting to Fairy Lake Botanical Garden is easy. You can take bus routes 27, 113, 214, 333, 336, B621, or M468. Get off at Wutongshan Xinju. Alternatively, take subway Line 5 or Line 2 to Huangbeiling Station.
