The Busterminal Stadion Center is located on Olympiaplatz. It sits in Vienna’s second district, Leopoldstadt. You will find it right next to the Stadion Center shopping mall. A parking garage is conveniently located there too.
Austrotouring Verkehrsbetriebe operates the Busterminal Stadion Center. This company belongs to the Gschwindl-Konzern. Nearby, you will spot the Ferry-Dusika-Stadion and the Ernst-Happel-Stadion. The Stadion U-Bahn station is also close.
Before the Busterminal Stadion Center was built, the number 21 tram line ran here. However, in 2008, the tram line was discontinued. This was to extend the U2 U-Bahn line to the stadium. The former tram route became a lane for taxis and buses like the 77A. It also served as a bus parking area for the Stadion Center.
In July 2013, this area was expanded into the Busterminal Stadion Center. It became a central point for long-distance European buses. Regional buses and the airport bus also stop here. The Busterminal Stadion Center has eight platforms. Each platform is 15 meters long. About half of the area is for the bus terminal itself. The other half offers bus parking. Around 30 buses can park on the grounds.
The U2 U-Bahn line and bus lines 11A and 77A are very close to the Busterminal Stadion Center. Besides the Busterminal Stadion Center, Vienna has two other long-distance bus terminals. One is the Vienna International Busterminal. It opened in 2007. The other is the bus station at Suedtiroler Platz.
In March 2019, city officials announced plans for a new central bus terminal. This new terminal will be near the Ferry-Dusika-Stadion. The Ferry-Dusika-Stadion is in close proximity to the Busterminal Stadion Center. Construction is expected to take five years. Once completed, it will be named Fernbus-Terminal Wien.
The goal is to address the issues at the Busterminal Stadion Center. Also, the Vienna International Busterminal is not ideal. A central bus terminal will help travelers changing buses. This project joins the new main train station and the Vienna Airport renovation. These are three big transportation projects in Vienna.
