What secrets does Warsaw hold? Let’s uncover one of them together, right here in Buków. Buków is a neighborhood nestled in the northeastern part of Warsaw, in the Białołęka district. It’s a place often overlooked, but it holds a unique charm. Buków sits west of Modlińska Street, right at the edge of Warsaw. It’s bordered by Modlińska, Aluzyjna, Szawelska, and Przyrzecze streets. Przyrzecze Street separates Buków from another intriguing neighborhood, Buchnik. Interestingly, the official city information system doesn’t acknowledge Buków as a separate entity. It considers it a part of Nowodwory. However, the Białołęka District Office recognizes Buków, even including Buchnik within its boundaries. This creates a fascinating administrative puzzle. In the early 20th century, Buków wasn’t part of Warsaw at all. It was a village just outside the city limits, located along a major road leading out of Warsaw. This all changed in 1951 when Buków, along with several neighboring villages, was incorporated into the expanding city. This annexation marks a significant point in Buków’s history, transforming it from a rural outpost to an urban neighborhood. So, as you stand here in Buków, remember its unique journey. From a quiet village on the outskirts to a hidden gem within Warsaw, Buków’s story is a testament to the ever-changing urban landscape.
