Hidden in plain sight in Kogarah Town Square stands the Bruce Lee Statue. It’s a remarkable tribute to the “King of Kung Fu”. This Bruce Lee statue isn’t the only one in the world. But it holds a special significance. It symbolizes a connection between two cities, Sydney and Shunde in China. The Bruce Lee Statue arrived in Kogarah in 2012 as a gift from Shunde. Shunde is Bruce Lee’s ancestral home. The statue itself is a smaller replica of a towering 19-meter statue in Shunde’s “Bruce Lee Paradise” theme park. This statue in Kogarah Town Square quickly became a local landmark. In 2017, the Georges River Council launched a community project. They asked people what the Bruce Lee statue meant to them. The responses formed an exhibition titled “A Day in the life of the Bruce Lee Statue”. It showcased photos and comments from the community, demonstrating the statue’s impact. The Bruce Lee Statue continues to draw attention. It underwent restoration in 2021, ensuring its preservation for future generations. The inscription on the statue reads “Bruce Lee, King of Kung Fu”. It serves as a reminder of his global influence and his connection to this place.
